Employee Spotlight: Wen Ow

Updated: Apr 13

Beast Code has some amazingly talented employees in its ranks. The Employee Spotlight series highlights the talented individuals who work here across our different departments. Each month, we’ll be featuring an interview here on the blog and our social accounts.

For this month’s Employee Spotlight, we spoke with Wen Ow, a UI/UX Designer on our design team.

If you had to eat the same meal, every day for the rest of your life, what would it be?

Korean cuisine is full of comfort food, and dolsot bibimbap (traditional bibimbap in a hot stone pot) would be my choice of meal. It is a bed of rice with mixed sautéed vegetables and meat on top. My favorite part of the meal is how the rice gets super crunchy and crispy on the bottom of the sizzling stone pot. It offers a truly unique package of flavor.

What’s the best thing about your job at Beast Code?

The best thing involves having a voice that is heard. My design lead, supervisor, and CEO listen to my ideas, are susceptible to change, and the whole team works together to make the ideas happen or at least evaluates them for a duration. We all support each other and work together to offer creative feedback and then turn our ideas into reality.

What advice would you give to new Beast Code employees?

Be curious and ask questions so that you can learn. Ask everyone questions so eventually you learn to ask the right questions at the right time for the sake of skill development. Give yourself the time to learn and be open to constructive feedback.

If you could trade jobs with anyone at Beast Code for a day, who would it be and why?

No one. Every job has their own responsibilities, challenges, lessons, rewards, benefits, processes, and more; regardless of the company, position, team, or product. The grass is not greener on either side; it is just a different shade.

What are five words (or less) of advice for others in your profession?

Learn to code. Not so you can become a developer (unless that is your passion), but so you are able to demonstrate to engineers that you understand their world and their language. They will respect and trust you more and do a better job of understanding your vision, process, and solution.

If you could add one thing to the Beast Code office, what would it be?

A cafeteria with chefs to cook for us.
